Identification of wood species
Based on physical, mechanical and mainly macroscopical and anatomical analysis (light microscope, SEM, µCT,…) wood species can be identified. This service also relies on reference material available at Woodlab and e.g. also at the wood collection of RMCA (http://www.metafro.be/).
Analysis of decay
Decayed wood specimens (both wood rot and insect damage) can be analysed and when required identification of the decaying organism can be included. An important part of this work is related to identification dry rot attack (Serpula lacrymans).
Testing efficacy of wood preservatives and resistance to fungal decay
Laboratory testing in line with EN 599 requirements for wood preservatives.
