Framework for ecosystem services for farmers

Farmers are strongly motivated to play an important role in the overall efforts to stop biodiversity loss.

In general, farmers are supporting party for in increase in sustainability but nevertheless need to find the right balance between economic viability of their ag-business and meeting the requierments.

We are investigating the effect of reduced fertilization, grass strips and hedgerows on agricultural productivity, the provision of ecosystem services and biodiversity.

The overall objective is the development of an assessment framework for the implementation of these measures. The framework should allow comparison of ecological objectives (contributing to an enhanced biodiversity management), public benefits (eccosystem services) and private benefits (agricultural production).

The implementation of nature-oriented measures on agricultural land will be a win-win for different sectors.
