Prof. dr. A. Martel
An Martel is a veterinarian and PhD from Ghent University, Belgium. Besides, she is diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (Wildlife Population Health). She is a professor in avian diseases and is head of the Division for Poultry, Exotic Companion, Wildlife and Laboratory Animals at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University.
Main Research Fields: interactions of bacteria and fungi with avian, reptile and amphibian hosts
An Martel’s major research focus is infectious diseases in birds, reptiles and amphibians. Her research group studies Aspergillus fumigatus, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Salmonella, Campylobacter and Brachyspira infections in birds; chytridiomycosis, ranavirosis and chlamydiosis in amphibians; and Devrieseasis and CANV infections in reptiles. Besides, antimicrobial resistance in bacteria and fungi of veterinary and zoonotic importance is studied.
