Laboratorium voor Gentherapie
The Laboratory of Gene Therapy at Ghent University is a new starting up research group. The group was founded in October 2008 and is headed by Prof. dr. Niek Sanders, who became research professor at Ghent University in 2008. The central theme within the laboratory is the in vivo evaluation and optimalization of gene and siRNA therapeutics in the battle against cancer, viral infections and ocular diseases.
During the first years the group will mainly emphasis on cancer and non-viral carriers for siRNAs and genes. Especially ultrasound responsive delivery systems for genes and siRNAs will be considered. To evaluate and optimize gene and siRNA therapeutics we will make use of animal models for cancer and advanced imaging techniques.
