Registration and recognition
For each type of course there are specific registration and recognition procedures.
The minimum set of the Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) may consist of four types of courses (both specialist courses and seminars in tranferable skills):
- regular course units (taught either at UGent or elsewhere; either individually or generally recognised)
- courses organised by the Doctoral Schools
- courses (taught either at UGent or elsewhere) generally recognised by the Doctoral Schools
- courses (taught either at UGent or elsewhere) for which individual recognition was granted.
The maximum set can only contain courses organised by the Doctoral Schools or regular course units (taught either at UGent or elsewhere).
Funding for courses
Funding can be requested for attending courses not organised by the Doctoral Schools, as part of the minimum set of the DTP. Each Doctoral School has its own funding rules (types of expenses that are reimbursable, maximum sum to be spent).
Advance payment of the course fee and possibly related costs is required (by the PhD students, or by their supervisor or department). There are specific procedures for reclaiming the costs from the Doctoral Schools.
Academic staff (supervisors, other tenured academic staff members, postdocs, etc.) wanting to organise a specialist course (intensive seminar, summer/winter school, etc.) can also apply for funding by the Doctoral Schools.
