The Department of Flow, Heat and Combustion Mechanics (FloHeaCom) is an integrated part of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University, Belgium. It groups approximately 50 staff members, divided into four research groups:
- Applied thermodynamics & heat transfer
- Combustion, fire & fire-safety
- Fluid mechanics
- Transport technology
Staff members provide education in a large number of courses. The department contributes to the curricula of the Bachelor in Electromechanical Engineering and of the Master in Electromechanical Engineering, among others. Moreover, the department participates in several Erasmus Mundus and postgraduate programmes.
The department also delivers services to industry. Several spin-off companies have their roots at the department.
The current head of department is Prof. Jan Vierendeels. The department council consists of all tenured academic staff and representatives of the assisting academic staff, scientific staff and administrative and technical staff.
