DRESS CODE – Dress with moving images (IWT 140548) (2015)

CICI ( Call for Innovation in the Creative Industries ) is an initiative of Flanders DC and  IWT (Agency for Innovation through Science and Technology). The goal is to achieve cross-fertilization between different disciplines in setting up innovation projects because it is becoming increasingly clear that innovation often happens outside the lab and requires more than research and development .

In this context, the Department of Textiles set up a project with Belgian fashion designer Kristof Buntinx and the company Lux Lumen from Wilrijk that develops non-standard lighting solutions. The aim of the project is to make a dress with moving images, DRESSCODE.

To do so, off-the-shelf components and modules are used. The 2.000 LEDS that are integrated in a flexible way into the bustier of the dress are all individually addressable so that the artist wearing the dress can tune the projected moving images accordingly. Each light point can show three colours and all lights are interconnected.

The technology was demonstrated at the Smart Textiles Salon 2015 in Ghent. The finished dress was presented in spring 2016.
