The Structural Engineering Department (EA14)

The Department of Structural Engineering consists of two research groups:

The Magnel Laboratory is the largest Belgian research centre in the field of concrete technology and concrete structures and enjoys a vast and widely-spread international recognition in fundamental scientific research and scientific services in various sectors of the construction industry. The research areas of the Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research focus on different aspects of the material concrete, going from fundamental material research on microscopic scale to structural behaviour of concrete structures on large scale. The laboratory disposes of extensive experimental testing facilities and infrastructures. Its large strong floor is a unique instrument for executing load tests on large-scale elements. During the last decade, it has also undertaken great investments in the equipment for durability and sustainability research and microscopic analyses.

The Laboratory for Research on Structural Models enjoys international appreciation for its experimental and numerical research of instability phenomena in shell structures. Its field of activity comprises structural analyses in general and glass structures and constructional steelwork in particular. The laboratory disposes of extensive experimental testing facilities and infrastructures.
