ARVD: Adaptive Relay Valve Drive
The aim of this project was to reduce the air consumption of air-jet looms. The ARVD system was developed to automatically adapt the relay nozzle settings to the behaviour of the weft yarn throughout the insertion. The principle consisted in increasing the blowing time for the picks that are expected to arrive too late. The algorithm developed allows a reduction of air consumption with 7-8 %. A higher reduction would be possible if one could know what reduction in air consumption leads to fabric defects.
