Accommodation for DEGREE students

  • degree students enrolled in an International Course Program (ICP) subsidized by the VLIR
  • degree students enrolled in the Master of Advanced Studies in European Law (LLM)
  • degree students enrolled in another international program
  • degree students who passed level 5 of the Dutch course

Application criteria

Your housing application is valid (and will be processed by the Housing Office) from the moment you have received a “Letter of Admission” from Ghent University. The Housing Office will not be able to meet requests from degree candidates without Letter of Admission. Also, If applicable, be sure you have your visa.

Rental fee of the living unit

  • Room plus (home Groningen and Göttingen): 424 EUR/month (12 month contract: 391 EUR/month); deposit for room: 125 EUR; deposit for key and badge: 35 EUR.
  • Flat for couples (home Heymans): 514 EUR/month (12 month contract); deposit for flat: 300 EUR; deposit for key and badge: 70 EUR.

When you apply for a living unit in the University Halls of Residence, you agree to these terms:

Rental period

  • The minimum rental period for ICP students is 12 months (reapplications are possible).
  • The rental period starts on 19 September 2017. Need accommodation sooner? Please contact the Housing Office.
  • Check-in is not possible during weekends, except for weekends in February, July, August and September.

Rental payment

  • The rent is due from the start of the reserved period.
  • The costs for the consumption of water, electricity and heating, provision of bed linen, cleaning of the common areas, repair service, use of telephone and internet are included in the monthly rent.
  • The monthly invoice will be sent to you by email. Payments have to be made by bank installments and does not need to be done before your arrival.

Modifications and cancellations

  • A compensation of €100 will be due in case of cancellation (before arrival) or no show.
  • In case you wish to change the period for which you have made a reservation, please inform us at least one month before the start of the confirmed period. After that time, requests for changing the period will no longer be accepted and the rent will be due for the confirmed period.
  • Once the tenancy agreement has been signed, it is not possible to terminate the agreement early. The rent is due for the duration of the agreement.

Please note that in case you will not be enrolled at the Ghent University but at another Flemish University, you need to register as a "guest student" within the online application.
