Since October 1st 2005, Ghent University is managed by rector Paul Van Cauwenberge. He was elected by the members of the faculty boards and occupies this position until fall 2013.

Prof Dr Van Cauwenberge (°Zottegem, 1949) is professor at the faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

For his management tasks he is assisted by the deputy vice-chancellor and the directors, and he is being supported by the staff department secretary of the Board of Governors.

As vice-chancellor, Prof Van Cauwenberge presides the meetings of boards and committees such as:

• the Board of Governors
• the Executive Board
