Sustainable energy use
Heating
- Use your thermostatically controlled tap correctly.
- Close doors that open into corridors.
- Pay attention that windows and doors are closed when you leave the office/room.
- Do not leave any towels or clothing on the central heating.
- If you open your window, turn off the heat (but do not forget to put it on minimum when it freezes).
- If radiators don't produce enough heat, this may be due to the presence of air in the water line. You need to let the air out regularly, using a special key (aks your landlord).
Hidden consumption
Some old wives' tales about your PC/laptop:
- Constantly switching your pc on and off is bad.
- Files might get lost when you leave your computer in stand-by.
- A screensaver 'saves' energy.
Real tips:
- Turn off the screen of your computer if you are not working on it for an extended period of time.
- Use the energy saver button on your copier.
Lighting
- Turn off the lights when you are the last person to leave a room.
- Use daylight as much as possible.
- Report flickering lights.
Kitchen
- Put a lid on your pot or pan (60 to 70 % less energy wasted), and turn off the heat a bit before you finish cooking.
- The ideal temperature for your refrigerator is 5°C; try to avoid a layer of ice in the freezer.
Water
- Do not wash your dishes under running water.
- Carefully close your tap to avoid dripping.
- Report leaky taps and toilets.
- Avoid water coolers - use tap water.
Paper
- Copy and print on both sides of the paper.
- Use scrap and/or recycled paper.
- Reconsider printing e-mails.
