How to obtain a proof of sufficient financial means?
When applying for a visa or a residence permit, students are asked to proof their solvency (meaning, their credit worthiness).
This solvency can be proved in different ways:
- A document certifying that the student has been granted a scholarship, sufficient to cover his expenses for studying, sojourn, medical care and repatriation
- A letter of a guarantee from a Belgian or foreign guarantor
For its students facing difficulties obtaining one of the documents mentioned above, Ghent University can also provide a letter to proof solvency. In that case the financial means have to be transferred to the account of Ghent University, where they will be blocked on a personal account. The financial means will then be paid to the student on a monthly base.
