Doctoral Schools

Doctoral research has always been at the forefront of Ghent University’s research policy. Five Doctoral Schools were implemented to support junior researchers during their research training, to focus on the international dimension of the doctoral degree and to enhance the value of the degree of doctor in the job market, in society and in the researcher’s personal career.

Your faculty remains responsible for academic admission of a PhD proposal, the defense of the dissertation and the granting of degrees. Your doctoral school will more particularly support you during your doctoral research.

Doctoral Schools Coordination Unit

The Doctoral Schools Coordination Unit lends support to the Doctoral Schools and its members. It is located on the 5th floor of the Rectorate Building. Doctoral Students requiring particular information can contact us by email: doctoralschools@UGent.be. Appointments can also be made to discuss particular issues with Nele Bracke or Barbara Vanderstraeten.
