Special Research Fund - Grants for visiting postdoctoral researchers
With support from its "Special Research Fund" (BOF), Ghent University provides grants for visiting postdoctoral researchers.
The postdoctoral researcher's stay at Ghent University lasts minimum 1 month and maximum 6 months.
Who can apply?
Applications must be submitted by a promoter of Ghent University who invites a postdoctoral researcher.
- This funding is aimed at top postdoctoral researchers. The postdoctoral researchers must have several years of postdoctoral experience and need to be internationally renowned for their expertise. The postdoctoral researcher's stay must be an added value for the research work of the host research group.
- The foreign postdoctoral researcher’s stay at Ghent University must signify an important contribution and added value to the work of the host research group.
- The stay will last minimum 1 month and maximum 6 months. Researchers can be funded for several visits as long as the maximum term of 6 months in total is not exceeded.
- A distinction is being made according to the seniority of the applicant. Researchers with 2-7 years’ experience at postdoctoral level must submit their application in the category of Junior researcher. Researchers with more than 7 years’ experience at postdoctoral level must submit their application in the category of Senior researcher.
How does it work?
The promoter of Ghent University applies for the funding. The Research Council evaluates the application, based on the qualification of the postdoctoral researcher and the signification of the postdoctoral researcher's stay for the research of the host research group.
How much funding is involved?
The postdoctoral researcher receives a grant of approx. €1.800 per month to cover the accommodation expenses and a lump sum of €1.000 to cover (part of) the travel expenses and insurance costs.
