All international students staying in Ghent, have to report to the Foreigners' Registration Office whithin 8 working days after arrival in Gent.

This registration is obligatory for ALL international students, no matter how long you stay in Belgium.

FIRST STEP:  

register on-line as a foreign student in the Foreigners’ Registration Office of the City of Ghent. You have to fill in the “Arrival Form” and mail it to the City of Ghent at: internationalstudent@gent.be

You download the translated Arrival Form here - Dutch-English ( pdf ). However, you can not fill out this form. The only form you can use, is the original version (in Dutch).

Attention: students living outside of the City of Ghent territory, can not fill out these forms. You should approach the local city or town hall or local police.

SECOND STEP:

When all compulsory information (fields in bold and with an asterisk [*]) has been completed and sent off, the police will come to check your address on request of the Foreigners’ Registration Office. As soon as it gets the confirmation from the police, the Foreigners’ Registration Office will send you an invitation to come and collect your residence permit. When you go to the Foreigners’ Registration Office, please bring all the necessary documents. If a single document is missing, the office will not be able to deliver the permit.

THIRD STEP: Departure (for all students)

When you leave Belgium, you have to print the Departure Form, fill it in, sign it and send it to:

• Stad Gent, Dienst Bevolking, Bureau Vreemdelingen
• Woodrow Wilsonplein 1, B-9000 Gent, Belgium
• or by e-mail to the City of Ghent at: internationalstudent@gent.be
