Start and end date of the academic year 2009-2010

The academic year 2009-2010 starts on 21 September 2009 and ends on 26 September 2010.

Academic calendar

The academic calendar is drawn up on a yearly basis and made public by the Board of Governors, before 1 January of the preceding academic year. Faculties can add specific stipulations to this calendar.

The academic year is divided into semesters:

  • Mon 21 September 2009: start of the 2009-2010 academic year
  • Thu 01 October 2009: ceremonious opening of the 2009-2010 academic year
  • Mon 21 September 2009 through Sat 12 December 2009: 12 weeks of educational activities 1st semester
  • Mon 14 December 2009 through Sat 19 December 2009: 1 week of catch-up activities
  • Mon 21 December 2009 through Sat 2 January 2010: 2 weeks Christmas recess
  • Mon 04 January 2010 through Sat 30 January 2010: 4 weeks 1st exam period 1st semester, preparation time for the exams included
  • Monday 1 February 2010 through Sat 06 February 2010: 1 week inter-semestral recess.
  • Mon 08 February 2010 through Sat 03 April 2010: 8 weeks of educational activities 2nd semester, feedback 1st exam period 1st semester until 20 February 2010
  • Mon 05 April 2010 through Sat 17 April 2010: 2 weeks Easter recess
  • Mon 19 April 2010 through Sat 15 May 2010: 4 weeks of educational activities 2nd semester
  • Mon 17 May 2010 through Sat 22 May 2010: 1 week of catch-up activities
  • Mon 24 May 2010 through Sat 03 July 2010: 6 weeks 1st exam period 2nd semester, preparation time for the exams included, deliberations and proclamations, feedback 1st exam period 2nd semester
  • Mon 05 July 2010 through Sat 14 August 2010: 6 weeks summer recess
  • Mon 16 August 2010 through Sat 18 September 2010: 5 weeks 2nd exam period, deliberations and proclamations
  • Mon 20 September 2010 through Sat 25 September 2010: 1 week feedback both exam periods and reorientations
  • Mon 27 September 2010: start of 2010-2011 academic year

Days off and holidays

Educational activities and evaluations are suspended during the Christmas recess, inter-semestral recess, Easter recess, summer recess and the week of Mon 20 September 2010 through Sat 25 September 2010, and on the following days off:

  • Mon 02 November 2009: All Souls' Day
  • Wed 11 November 2009: Armistice Day
  • Mon 15 February 2010 through Tue 15 February 2010: spring break
  • Fri 19 March 2010: Dies Natalis (foundation day)
  • Sat 01 May 2010: May Day
  • Thu 13 May 2010 through Fri 14 May 2010: Ascension
  • Mon 24 May 2010: Whit Monday
