Study programmes in Dutch

Bachelor programmes taught in Dutch

All bachelor programmes at Ghent comprise 180 ECTS credits, corresponding to three years or study. Successful students are awarded the academic degree of ‘bachelor’.

Master programmes taught in Dutch

Master programmes are open to holders of an appropriate bachelor degree. Master programmes involve at least 1 year of study (60 ECTS credits); some master degrees involve 2, 3, or 4 years of study (60 ECTS credits each). Successful students are awarded a ‘master degree’.

Master programmes taught in Dutch and English

A few master programmes at Ghent University are partly taught in English and partly in Dutch. As the official language of instruction of these programmes is Dutch, the Dutch language requirements are applied. However, the candidates should also have a sound knowledge of English. The language of instruction of each course is mentioned in the course catalogue.

Advanced master programmes taught in Dutch

Advanced master programmes comprise 60 ECTS credits and provide high standard specialization opportunities for holders of a particular master degree.

Postgraduate studies taught in Dutch

Postgraduates comprise study programmes of minimum 20 ECTS credits, awarded by a certificate, in some cases referring to a legally recognized professional qualification. They constitute study and learning paths intended to enable students to explore the competences acquired upon completion of a bachelor’s or master’s study, in greater depth and scope, as part of their further professional training.

Permanent training taught in Dutch

Permanent training comprises a broad range of courses, lifelong learning, education in new or fast developing fields of study. The duration and entrance requirements to these courses are very flexible. Some lead to a specific certificate awarded by Ghent University.
