Job description

At the Department of Public Health, the Epidemiology and Prevention research unit, a research position is available for a full-time scholarship in the field of cardiovascular disease management, aiming to obtain a PhD degree. The PhD student will work on the HeartMan project: “Personal Decision Support System For Heart Failure Management”. This project constitutes a Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation action within the PHC-28-2015 Predictive modeling call.

Within the HeartMan project a personal health system was developed to help heart failure patients manage their disease through personalised advice. The PhD student will contribute to the project activities and tasks committed to UGent, which mainly focus on setting up the proof of concept trial of the system. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with members from the international consortium and with the local participating medical centers. We offer a 1-year appointment (potentially renewable).

Profile of the candidate

  • Master of Medicine in medicine, Master of Science in rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy, Master of Science in nursing and midwifery, or equivalent
  • Having a strong research interest in the field of cardiovascular epidemiology and disease management is essential
  • Excellent knowledge of research methodology and statistics
  • Excellent knowledge of the Dutch and English language
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills
  • Excellent communication skills
