Professor Linda Thienpont has been selected for the 2011 IFCC Robert Schaffer Award for Outstanding Achievements in the
Development of Standards for Use in Laboratory Medicine.The Laboratory for Analytical Chemistry is listed as reference laboratory, competent for performing SI-traceable reference measurement procedures, in the Database of the Joint Committee for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine
(JCTLM, see http://www.bipm.org/jctlm/).

In the capacity of reference laboratory, the Laboratory for Analytical Chemistry offers services to different parties, i.e. international In-Vitro Diagnostic Manufacturers, Competent Authorities, Metrological Institutes, Organizers of trueness-based External Quality Assessment Schemes, the European Commission, etc. These services comprise ID-MS value assignment for the following measurands:
- serum creatinine, glucose, uric acid, total cholesterol, total triglycerides
- serum cortisol, progesterone, estradiol-17β, testosterone, total thyroxin and triiodothyronine (TT4; TT3), free T4
- serum 25-hydroxy-vitamin D2, 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3.
- serum insulin, C-peptide (measurement procedures still to nominate for listing in the JCTLM Database).
Prof. Linda Thienpont also offers consultancy regarding different aspects of implementation/validation of metrological traceability of in vitro diagnostic medical devices.
Prof. Linda Thienpont also organizes post-academic courses on a yearly basis (in cooperation with D. Stöckl, from STT-Consulting). The courses are restricted to maximum 8 participants; each participant has a laptop with datasets, templates and modern software packages available. During the course, the theory is put into practice by way of demonstrations and exercises. Topics are:
"Statistics and Graphics for the Medical Laboratory – From Test Utility to Internal Quality Control" (3-days)
"Laboratory statistics and graphics with EXCEL®" (1-day or 3-evenings).
