Onderzoeksprojecten
Onderzoeksproject 1:
Toegepaste ontwikkeling van nieuwe medicijnen voor patiënten met myeloproliferatieve en myelodysplastische syndromen. In fase I en II klinisch-wetenschappelijke onderzoeken ligt de focus op de toepassing van nieuwe molecules zoals de hypomethylerende agentia, de HDAC-inhibitoren, de MEK-inhibitoren en nieuwere chemotherapeutische middelen. De meeste van deze klinisch-wetenschappelijke studies zijn strategisch in een nationaal of een multinationale coöperatieve organisatie, met inclusie van: Eortc, Hovon, BHS en andere. Tevens bestuderen we bij deze patiënten de prevalentie van niet adherentie aan de orale behandelingen, een klinisch sterk onderschat probleem. Dit wordt verder ontwikkeld met de nadruk op het vinden van methode en apparaten om de adherentie te volgen en te verbeteren.
Onderzoeksproject 2:
Door chemotherapie geïnduceerde neurocognitieve afwijkingen bij patiënten met acute leukemie of die een stamceltransplant ondergaan. Dit onderzoek wordt gesteund door een fonds van het Oncologisch Zorgprogramma. Naast samenwerking met de afdeling Psychiatrie includeert het een samenwerking met het Departement Radiologie (Prof. Dr. R. Achten) met niet-invasieve functionele MRI scan.
Onderzoeksproject 3:
Het onderzoek van de MRI/beenmergsignatuur in patiënten met multipel myeloma, bij diagnose, tijdens ziekte-evolutie, onder behandeling en tijdens de latere follow-up. Dit project verloopt in samenwerking met het Departement Radiologie (Prof. Dr. K. Verstraete)
Onderzoeksproject 4:
Klinische ontwikkeling van medicijnen en therapeutische behandelingsmodaliteiten bij patiënten met een lymfoproliferatieve aandoening.
- Klinisch-wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar de ontwikkeling van medicijnen in fase 1-3 in folliculaire en indolente non-Hodgkin lymfomen, B-CLL, mantelcellymfoom en diffuus grootcellig non-Hodgkin lymfoom met o.a. nieuwe anti CD20 antilichamen, chemotherapiecombinaties, immunotoxines en andere antibodies.
- Strategisch onderzoek in een multicentrische academische organisatie in diffuus grootcellig non-Hodgkin lymfoom: GELA en T-NHL (belinostat, A-CHOP)
Trials bij myeloompatiënten, in een multicentrische academische setting met de Intergroupe Francophone du Myelome (IFM) en ook in verband met ontwikkeling van nieuwe medicijnen.
Onderzoeksproject 5:
Collaboratie met het Departement Intensieve Zorgen op patiënten met hematologische aandoeningen die gevorderde supportieve zorg nodig hebben in samenwerking met Prof. Dr. Benoit.
Onderzoeksproject 6:
In vitro onderzoek naar de inductie van celdood door interferentie met signaaltransductie en het gestoord eiwitassemblagerespons in B-cel lymfoïde maligniteiten. Prof F Offner, PhD studenten J Boelens, S Lust, H Van Melckebeke (FWO-aspirant) in samenwerking met het Departement Experimentele Cancerologie (Prof Bracke, dr Van Hoecke).
Onderzoeksproject 7:
Fundamenteel en pre-klinisch onderzoek met focus op de ontwikkeling van tumor antigeen specifieke T-cel therapieën voor de behandeling van hematologische aandoeningen Dr. Tessa Kerre (met FWO support), in nauwe samenwerking met het Departement Immunologie (Prof. Bart Vandekerckhove and Prof. J. Plum).
Onderzoeksproject 8:
Klinische fase I en II onderzoeken in de context van stamceltransplantatie: gereduceerde intensiteitconditionering, haplo-identische stamceltransplantatie, navelstrengbloed stamceltransplantatie, mesenchymale stamcelinfusie voor de preventie en de behandeling van graft-versus-host reactie en transplantfalen, in de context van de Belgische Hematologische Vereniging en EBMT (Dr. T. Kerre and Prof. Dr. L. Noens).
