Registration
Before registering for Low Countries Studies, ask yourself this question: do I want to take part in the exam or do I want to take this course by interest?
You want to earn credits?
How?
You can take this course (3 credits) as part of your programme or as an extra course (credit contract) or as a micro-credential.
If you are a student of the European Master of Clinical Linguistics, the Low Countries Studies are a mandatory course. Other students can take the Low Countries Studies:
- as an elective course (if their programme allows so)
- as a supernumerary course mentioned on your diploma
- as an extra course via a credit contract (this option is also available for persons not enrolled as students at UGent)
Who?
Anyone, whether connected to UGent or Association UGent or not, can register. There are no limits to the number of registrations.
A distinction is made between students taking this course as part of their programme (as a mandatory course or as an elective course) and students or other interested people taking this course as a supernumerary course or as an extra course via credit contract or micro-credential.
Students in the possession of an official UGENT student number for the present academic year, can register through Oasis; the Low Countries Studies is a course organized by the Faculty of Arts (A005539A - Low Countries Studies) and is offered via the European Master of Clinical Linguistics, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. The course is free for these students if it is part of their programme. For problems with the enrolment, please mail to the OASIS helpdesk.
Exchange students need to send an email using their official UGent-address to the International Office from their Faculty with the request to participate in the Low Countries Studies programme. The course is free for exchange students if it is part of their programme..
Students and other interested people taking this course as a supernumerary course or as an extra course via credit contract or micro-credential will have to pay a fee (see under Costs)
Students at the UCT, having no additional enrolment at Ghent University, are considered as external participants.
Costs?
The course is free for official students of Ghent University (BA, MA) and for exchange students if it is part of their programme.
Students taking this course as a supernumerary course will have to pay the extra credits, i.e. 3 x 13,50 EUR = 40,50 EUR (on top of the tuition fee).
Other interested people (staff or researchers of Ghent University, their family or external participants) can take this course via credit contract or via micro-credential.
As credit contract: you need to register for the Low Countries Studies via Oasis. After registering your personal data (name, address etc), you can apply for a registration for the Low Countries Studies. You will be invited to pay the fixed amount of 282,10 EUR + the fee for 3 credits: 3 x 13,50 EUR. The total amount is thus 322,60 EUR.
As micro-credential: you need to register for the Low Countries Studies via the Humanities Academie of the Arts' Faculty. The total amount is 322,60 EUR.
Registration period?
Students are allowed to register until the end of February 2024. The usual rules of the University apply in connection with quitting the programme.
Evaluation?
Participation and an assignment are required. Course material will be available on Ufora (course A005539A - Low Countries Studies). See the course specifications:
- After each lecture, the students post a short reflection (approx. 300 words) in the appropriate discussion forum on Ufora. The students are encouraged to interact with each other in this way. Students are expected to respond to at least nine of the twelve lectures.
- After the completion of the course, students write an essay (approx. 4000 words). For this essay, students can choose from two options. Or they write a reflection on the entire program: what was interesting, what are the most striking differences with the home country, which subjects were clearly lacking (always thoroughly substantiated); or they write an essay on one topic from the course, comparing thoroughly the situation in Belgium with the situation in their home country. The comparison must be accompanied by a reflection on the differences. The essays are expected at the latest on Friday, 31 May, 23.59h and should be handed in via Ufora (A005539A - Low Countries Studies). Under the tab ‘Ufora-tools’ there is an ‘Assignment’ called ‘Essay’.
You want a certificate of attendance (no credits)?
How?
You register via the Humanities Academie of the Arts' Faculty (Ghent University). You register for the lectures of your choice.
Who and costs?
Anyone, whether connected to UGent or Association UGent or not, can register. There are no limits to the number of registrations. The registration fee is waived for official students of Ghent University (BA, MA and PhD) and for exchange students. Staff and researchers of Ghent University (without a student card), as well as their family or external participants are invited to pay 25 EUR per individual lecture.
Registration period?
You can register as long as the programme is running.
Evaluation?
There is no formal evaluation (exam), but attending the lectures is required. Attendance will be proved by signing the attendance sheet. The official certificates of attendance from Ghent University are signed by the vice dean of the Arts' Faculty. Each student / participant will receive a copy both in Dutch and in English. The certificate will be issued using the names (first name, surname) you provided while registering for the Humanities Academie.
