Content information

Starting level:

  • You studied French in secondary school, as a second or third language.
  • However, French is still a difficult language for you:
    • When you speak French, you do not feel certain: you often use the same words and structures and have doubts about the correct use of the language.
    • When native speakers speak to you, you understand almost everything. You experience problems when they talk (too) fast.
    • Reading general texts in French poses no problems, but writing in French is much more difficult. You do not know when to use the subjonctif or the conditionnel. You would like to brush up the concord between the participe passé and the personal pronouns, which also poses problems (when to use "le" and "lui ? and in which position in the sentence? ...).
  • It is required that you take the brief online test before enrolling. Please find this general orientation test in the list of French tests. During the first class session your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test may be confirmed. If you are referred to a different level at that stage you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.

Content:

  • Listening skills: authentic materials are used in class as much as possible.
  • Speaking skills: are practised in different ways. At the end of the course you can participate in a conversation on familiar issues without preparation. You can also link sentences in a simple manner.
  • Writing skills: at the end of the course you can write simple, coherent texts on topics which are familiar to you.
  • Specific grammatical items: the use of the imparfait and the passé composé, the conditionnel, the personal pronouns.
