Content information

Starting level:
No prior knowledge is required.

Content:

  • The basic morphology of Latin is taught systematically (per lexical category). The objective is not only to be able to determine the word forms or learn them by heart, but also to gain insight into Latin morphology.
  • Like the morphology, the Latin syntax is also explained systematically so participants gain insight into the structure of Latin sentences in a clear and concise way.
  • The Latin morphology and syntax are not separately studied, but are discussed while reading simple authentic texts, which is the main objective of the course. You will discover fascinating and varied texts from Ancient history and later periods. You will learn how to read them by implementing a fixed expectation pattern and taking into account word position.
  • A thorough knowledge of vocabulary is essential to be able to read texts. Therefore, this will be tested at the beginning of every class.
