Prof. Elga de Vries will tell us more on her research on the role of the neurovascular unit in multiple sclerosis and dementia.

Prof.dr. Elga (HE) de Vries from the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology, Amsterdam Neuroscience, VU medical center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands is our guest speaker.

More information on her talk: Pathological alterations in the integrity and function of the brain vasculature and its surrounding cell types are observed in a wide range of neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain cancer, and vascular dementia. Our current research focuses on how alterations of the neurovascular unit underlie multiple sclerosis (MS) and a form of dementia which is marked by amyloid deposits at the brain vasculature, capillary cerebral amyloid angiopathy (capCAA) in order to find novel ways to counteract these detrimental processes. Molecular pathways that control such processes will be discussed.
