VOKA visit and official opening of P3Lab on the technology park, Zwijnaarde
Prototyping, polymer processing and testing: the P’s of the P3Lab, an innovative hub for the polymer-making industry (Ghent University and partners) – official opening
P3Lab inlcudes the new Fablab of Ghent University and the equipment for polymer processing and protoyping, design- and simulation-possibilities for polymers and testings.
P3Lab is the result of an EFRO (European Regional Development Fund) grant from the European Union, supported by Ghent University. The lab clusters several research groups from the Ghent University Association. The main partners are CPMT (Center for Polymer and Materials Technology), MMS (Mechanics of Materials and Structures) and IDC (Industrial Design Center, Howest Kortrijk- Ghent University). Associate partners include: the Department of Information Technology, the Department of Textiles and CMST (Center for Microsystems Technology).
The central location at the Technology Park in Zwijnaarde enables an optimal cross-fertilization between the different engineering disciplines.
The research group CPMT, located in P3lab building itself, has the intention to build a central contact point within the development and testing of (3D) polymer-based products. Both in terms of teaching, research and also as a service to industry (eg. for start-ups).
In the field of education, Ghent University students have the opportunity to get started themselves in the P3Lab when building prototypes. Within this open platform for product development you can find 3D printers, laser cutters, a materials shop, microcontrollers, etc.
It is possible to focus on one aspect of the design-production cycle of a product or on the entire product-loop from concept, over production to final quality testings.
During this opening and information day we will focus on polymer processing, prototyping, additive manufacturing and additionally also the recycling of polymers. (This session is thus complementary to the program of the Industry Contact Day of the Ghent Composites Consortium which was held in March 2016, where the focus was mainly on simulation, design and material testings)
The program includes lectures and testimonies, combined with demos and a guided tour of the building.
On the agenda - starting at 2 pm, closing at 4.30 pm:
- Welcome (Ilse Christiaens, Business Developer Composites consortium Ghent University)
- Department CPMT: Center for Polymer- and Material technology (Prof. Ludwig Cardon, Ghent University)
- Business testimony, focus on polymers (Frans Van Giel, CTO Beaulieu)
- Business testimony, focus on 3D Printing and pre-compliance testing (Bart Van der Schueren, Vice president Materialise)
- Guided tour P3Lab, demo’s
- Closing network reception
Location: P3Lab - Technologiepark 915 - 9052 Zwijnaarde
We look forward to welcoming you!
