Nele Van Hecke

Nele Van Hecke (°1987) graduated in 2012 as a MSc in Educational Sciences (Ghent University). She wrote her master’s thesis on the perception of older mentally ill offenders on their detention and care trajectories. After finishing her studies, she worked in a residential home for adults with intellectual disabilities. Since 2013, she has been working on several research projects on “Quality of Life from an interdisciplinary perspective” and on “inclusive neighbourhoods” at Ghent University College and Ghent University.

In February 2015 she started a PhD, supervised by prof. dr. Stijn Vandevelde and prof. dr. Wouter Vanderplasschen, on “Quality of Life and protective factors regarding recidivism in adolescents who reside in closed institutions for forced care and treatment in Flanders”.

Furthermore, she guides some students in their internship and in their master’s dissertation.
