Biography
Tom Evens holds Masters Degrees in Communication Sciences (2005) and Business Administration (2006) from Ghent University. In December 2013, he successfully defended his PhD on the political economy of the television industry. In this thesis, the focus was on power dynamics between television broadcasters and distributors.
Tom specialises in the economics and policies of digital media markets, with a particular interest in business models, distribution strategies, media concentration, sports broadcasting rights, digital radio and next-generation networks.
He has published widely on the media business in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. Together with Petros Iosifidis and Paul Smith, Tom is the author of "The Political Economy of Television Sports Rights" (published by Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). He also serves as Book Review Editor with the "International Journal of Digital Television".
