The documentary focuses on his personal story as well as on his research and its impact on our daily lives. - 18 September 2010: Listen to Marc Van Montagu's talk at the Académie Royale de Belgique, entitled: "De la sécurité alimentaire à l’industrie verte : contributions des sciences de la vie."
- September 2010: 'Challenges and responsibilities for public sector scientists' (pdf 325 Kb)by Marc Van Montagu - New Biotechnology, September 2010
Current agriculture faces the challenge of doubling food production to meet the food needs of a population expected to reach 9 billion by mid-century whilst maintaining soil and water quality and conserving biodiversity. These challenges are more overwhelming for the rural poor, who are the custodians of environmental resources and at the same time particularly vulnerable to environmental degradation. Solutions have to come from concerted actions by different segments of society in which public sector science plays a fundamental role. - 10 May 2010: 'EU
will adopt GM', says pioneer Marc Van Montagu. 'It may take
10 to 15 years before Europe fully opens its doors to
genetically modified food crops, but the doors will open', a co-pioneer
of the gene transfer process believes. (by Matt Cawood, The Land. Source: http://www.theland.com.au)
