Dr. Marton Varju

Marton Varju is senior research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Centre for Social Sciences and senior lecturer in law at the University of Debrecen. Marton is also affiliated with the Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine at Central European University, Budapest.
He holds a PhD in law from the University of Hull, UK, where he was also a lecturer in law. He is the convenor of a Hungarian Academy of Sciences 'Lendület' research group which focuses on the legal boundaries in the EU of Member State political and policy particularism.
His main research interests lie in EU public law, EU economic law and market regulation, and the regulation and ethics of emerging biotechnologies. His current work focuses mainly on the constraints of national economic patriotism and particularism in EU law and on the formulation and representation of Member State interests in the European Union.
