BIO

Ruben Savels joined the Department of Agricultural Economics as an assistant in August 2020.
He holds a BSc and a MSc Degree in Bioscience Engineering: Agricultural Sciences from Ghent University.

Following his passion for sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and environmental economics, his current research focuses on the institutional settings concerning agroecology and the economic assessment of marine plastic waste policies.

As an assistant he is involved with the teaching activities of the courses

  • Introduction to the Circular Economy, Economics and Management of Natural Resources

  • Integrated Sustainable Agriculture

Additionally, he is open to tutoring students for Bachelor’s and Master’s dissertations.

Research

Ruben’s research focuses on the institutional settings and governance of agroecology.
Additionally he is involved in the IUCN ‘Plastic Waste Free Islands – Med’ project, in which he is responsible for a socio-economic assessment of marine plastic waste policies.
