ir. Katrien Van Eerdenbrugh

Since the start of my master thesis, the fields of hydrology and hydraulics have accompanied me in my professional Katrienactivities. I started my career in a research division that supports the Flemish Government in its design of infrastructure and its policy with regard to water management. After 7 years of operational research, I took charge of the coordination of the research group Water Management. The activities of this group consisted of projects regarding flood protection and water shortage, hydrologic measurements and flood and drought forecasting services. In 2012, I choose for a more in-depth exploration of my topics of interest and I started to work as a doctoral research assistant at the Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Management at Ghent University. My doctoral research focusses on the effect of uncertainties on the simulation of flood extents and I thus aim to combine my former experience with a scientific approach for uncertainty assessment. In the first years, my scientific activities mainly comprise the effects of uncertainties on discharge assessment through rating curves. Besides my research activities, I am teaching the practical exercises of Hydraulics, Meteorology and Hydrology (partim Hydrology), Water Resources Engineering,  Irrigation and Drainage (partim Irrigation) and I organise a Seminar dealing with Water Management in Flanders.

Research topics: rating curves, hydraulic modelling, flood extent, uncertainty assessment
