On 29 May, Dr. Evan Evans (Institute of Brewing and Distilling) will give a lecture on malt quality at Ghent University.

Speaker: Dr. Evan Evans

Dr. Evans is a specialist in malt quality and its impact on the beer production process. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), is serving on the IBD Awards Committee, and has more than 50 peer reviewed papers on malt quality and brewing issues.

Dr. Evan Evans will give a talk about Modernizing malt quality testing for better beer production.

Brewers use malt quality parameters and specifications to purchase malt and determine its suitability for their brewing processes. The properties of the malt have indeed substantial impact on brewing efficiency, profitability and final beer quality. However, some of the key indicators such as the Congress mash and diastatic power have their origins in the early 19th century.

In this talk, Dr. Evan Evans will discuss alternative functional malt testing protocols that will allow a better prediction of the complete beer production process (wort fermentability, protein modification, lautering efficiency, yeast flocculation, beer filtration efficiency, malt flavor).

Afterwards, you are invited for a drink in the brewery of our research group at the Campus.

This event is organized by the Laboratory for Brewing Science and Technology of UGent and HOGENT.
