In 2017, a survey was conducted at our faculty to try and better understand the underrepresentation of women in senior positions. This showed that although women and men have similar career aspirations, female representation drops significantly at higher positions (from 51% PhD to ~25% professorship). These results sparked the foundation of Bioengineers for Diversity (Be4Diversity) and the organization of the first Women in Science Day 2019.

On 11/02/2020, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Be4Diversity organizes Women in Science Day 2020, a full day symposium focusing on the steps that need to be taken to move towards a more inclusive STEM society with equal opportunities for women and girls.

Interactive workshops on leadership, mentoring, and cognitive bias will be  followed by a keynote talk by dr. Elizabeth Pollitzer on gender-sensitive research and innovation, and a panel discussion on climbing up the gender balance ladder in STEM. The day will be concluded with a networking reception with information booths of organisations promoting gender balance in STEM.

All students and personnel of our faculty are welcome to the event.
