100 in 2020
(06-01-2020) In 2020 we celebrate our 100th anniversary. Get to know our history and find out our plans this year!
History
1920: State Agricultural University
In 1920, the first academic year at the State Agricultural University started. This agricultural university was established by the first rector, Cyriel Van Damme. For the first time lectures were given in Dutch. Before that, lectures were given in French, at the time the official language for education in Belgium.
Another - French speaking - State Agricultural University was located in Gemboux near Liège, now Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, a faculty within the University of Liège.
1969: faculty within Ghent University
The State Agricultural Universities in Ghent and Gembloux strived for an acknowledgement as a university faculty. In 1965 they were allowed to join Ghent University and Liège University. It wasn't until 1969 when the law permitted the State Agricultural University in Ghent to officially become part of Ghent University.

Beer
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of our faculty, we developed a brand new 'faculty beer', named Coupure Blond.
It's a a blonde high fermentation beer based on ancient, local cereals.
Served on all festivities for our 100th anniversary!
Jubilee book
In this jubilee book we look back on 100 years of education and research on the technology for the living matter and its environment.
We also look into the future: our youngest researchers describe their vision on how their field of study will look like in 2050.
This book will be presented on our anniversary celebration on 2 October 2020.
