Expenses for page charges

Aim

Page charges related to publications in "top 10%" journals (ISI-list) can be fully or partially (re)funded by the Committee. In the assessment, the ranking of the journal, one year before publication, will be used (not the online version).

Who can apply?

All researchers at the FBE.

What can be applied for?

(Re)funding of expenses related to the publication in "top 10%" journals (based on the impact factor from the ISI Journal Citation Reports). The sum that will be (re)funded is determined in relation to the share of FBE research groups in the making of the publication. For example: if 3 research groups were involved in the making of a publication, and 2 of them are related to the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, then a sum can be granted up to 2/3 of the total price of the page charges.

Additionally, the following rules apply:

  • To determine the number of different research groups (FBE or not) involved in a publication, the smallest number of research groups is taken that encompasses all authors.
  • "Page charges" are understood as the "minimal expense required to publish in a given journal". The expenses for the publishing of color figures are not eligible for financial support by the CWO. The expenses to publish in open access are not eligible if it concerns a printed journal with an option to publish in open access in return for an additional fee. Only the expenses for publication in journals that only appear in open access (and where this expense is required to be able to publish in this journal) are eligible for financial support by the CWO.
  • The ranking one year before publication will be used for the evaluation. E.g. your research gets published in the journal in 2018, the ranking of 2017 will be used.

The ISI Journal Citation Reports can be accessed in the following way:

  • By using the link (see above) you will find a search portal where you can search for the specific journal.
  • On the page with information on the journal, you will find the 'Rank by Journal Impact Factor' which will show you whether or not the journal is in the top 10% of its' research category.

When can an application be submitted?

This application can be submitted throughout the year but no later than 1 year after acceptance of the publication. The application will be handled on the agenda for the next meeting of the Committee where this application type is handled.

Important: for each Committee meeting there is a budget limitation. During this meeting, applications can be granted for max. total of this amount. The initial budget limitation can be found on the annual schedule of the Committee (in Dutch).
