Resource recovery

Biotechnology plays a central role in the circular economy by enabling the use of wastes as secondary raw materials.

Microorganisms can recover (or produce) valuable resources and commodities such as bio-energy, nutrients, critical metals, … from solid, liquid and gaseous waste and side-streams.

This thematic cluster focuses on the study of microorganisms to understand how to harness them in novel biotechnological processes for resource recovery.
