New molecules for pharma, cosmetics, feed and agriculture

Chito-oligosaccharides (COS) are molecules with numerous applications in the pharmaceutical, agricultural and cosmetics industries. Today, these molecules are obtained from chitin, which is extracted from the exoskeleton of crustaceans.

This requires a number of environmentally unfriendly processes, which, moreover, leads to mixtures of COS. However, for numerous applications pure well defined COS are required.

We optimize the biotechnological production of defined COS by improving for example solubility, bioavailability, and biocompatibility. In addition, through microbial production it is possible to produce novel COS with improved or novel functionalities.
