Urban heat regulation

Urban heat regulation

Urban heat regulationUrban heat islands are a major problem in cities all over the world. Due to this phenomenon temperatures in urban areas are higher compared to the rural surroundings.

Since population in cities is increasing, heat regulation becomes more important. Urban planners need targeted information on urban hot spots and how to deal with them.

One solution can be found in the morphological characteristics of the urban areas. Changing  these can have big effects on the surrounding air temperature.

What are we doing

  • We quantify and analyse urban ecosystem services supported by remote sensing.
  • We focus on urban heat analysis in the city of Brussels for the current and the future situation.
