  • April 2018: The first ForNaLab/Bos+ Symposium was organized at the Lab in Gontrode. PhD students, post-docs as well as people from Bos+ got to present their research and projects to the other colleagues and master students forest and nature management. You can read the program with abstracts here!
  • March 2017: Agriculture & Forestry at Ghent University is highly ranked at the 46th place in the 2017 QS World University Rankings by subject
  • February 2017: Watch the report on the planting of the UGent climate forest by AVS News!
  • February 2017: Friday 17th of February, a UGent climate forest of 2.5 ha will be planted in Melle, Belgium. This climate forest will be an open air laboratory and will be part of the global network TreeDivNet.
  • November 2016: The UGent coordinated a press release on our research in Dovrefjell, Norway, on adaptation of plants to climate change. It has been published by several news websites: De Morgen, Metro & HLN.

  • November 2015: start event of the Natural Capital research cluster of our Faculty in the KBC tower (in Dutch).
  • November 2015: Thomas Schaubroeck, former PhD student of the lab, won the price of the public for his PhD research in the EOS pipet 2015 competition for most promising young scientist of Flanders.
  • October 2015: BosLAB, the largest open air laboratory of Flanders, was officially launched.
  • October 2015: PhD student Sanne Ruyts commented about the link between the masting of oaks and the risk of Lyme disease two years later in Het Belang van Limburg.
  • September 2015: during the past years, a series of 6 papers from Fornalab on the topic of 'biogeochemistry and biodiversity' were published in Natuur.focus. Now, all papers are bundled in a special issue
  • August 2015: Five years of FORBIO! Trees seem to be happier when growing in a diverse forest (consisting of different tree species). News covered by the national press: HLN, Le Soir, Het Belang van Limburg, Radio 2, VTM and Natuur.Focus.
  • May 2015: The launch of "The Talking Forest" was covered in the media > De Standaard news article, De Redactie article
  • February 2015: Pallieter De Smedt appeared in the popular tv-show "De Ideale Wereld" showing one of hist study species: the woodlouse.

  • April 2014: Head of the lab, Prof. dr. ir. Kris Verheyen, and Prof. dr. Bart Muys, KU Leuven, comment on the current state and the future of Flemish forests and urge policymakers to take actions and develop a long-term vision on the interplay between forests, economics and well-being.
