Jessica Keune

Meteorologist with a specific interest in high-resolution integrated, regional climate and hydrologic modelling and land-atmosphere interactions for an improved understanding of the hydrologic cycle.


Jessica KeuneI am currently a post-doctoral research fellow at the Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Management – Ghent University, working in the DRY-2-DRY project. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Bonn (Prof. Andreas Hense) I have worked on statistical analysis, statistical forecasting and verification methods within various projects, such as the Hans-Ertel Research Centre from the German Weather Service, but also within a company focusing on renewable energy forecasts (EuroWind GmbH). During my PhD under the supervision of Stefan Kollet at the Research Centre in Juelich and the University of Bonn, I studied the impact of groundwater dynamics in a regional climate model. I used the Terrestrial Systems Modeling Platform and developed a setup over the European CORDEX domain, to study the potential of groundwater to dampen droughts. We also looked into the effects of human water use including groundwater pumping on atmospheric water vapor transport and their relevance for local sustainability. During this time I became involved in the HyperHydro community for large-scale hydrologic modeling.


Within the DRY-2-DRY project I am studying the impact of land management on land-atmosphere interactions and their potential to dampen droughts.
