Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering, Room B0.3, Campus Coupure Links 653, UGent
John Van Camp

Prof. Eulogio Castro will present his research work to coworkers, PhD and master students interested in the broad topic of renewable resources.

Prof. Castro is Full Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering, University of Jaén, Spain. His main research interests are the conversion of biomass into added-value products. He studies different agricultural and agro-industrial materials used as raw materials for the development of the biorefinery concept, including sugarcane bagasse, rapeseed straw, brewer spent grains, sunflower stalks and especially all by-products from olive tree cultivation and those derived from the olive oil production process. Concerning products, the main ones include biofuels, renewable chemicals and biomaterials. He is co-author of 170 Indexed peer-reviewed publications, 2 Original patents, 14 Chapters of books, and 200 Communications in international conferences. Prof. Castro is a member of the PhD evaluation committee of José Villacís-Chiriboga (Escuela Nacional Polytechnica EPN, Quito, Ecuador), who was a VLIR-UOS PhD student at the Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering (FBE), UGent.
