waeelalrobaish2.jpgWaeel Salih Alrobaish is an Academic Researcher on Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Saudi Arabian governmental research institute KACST (King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology). Sponsored by KACST through the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in The Netherlands, Waeel undertook a 4-year PhD research at Ghent University, Department of Food Technology, Safety and Health, and graduated on March 2023 as a Doctor of Bioscience Engineering: Food Sciences and Nutrition. His PhD research, titled “Food integrity climate and culture assessment to prevent fraud in food businesses”, was aimed at enhancing new awareness on food integrity related aspects and developing more effective tools and solutions beyond the existent food safety compliance methods to help food businesses in embracing food integrity as a comprehensive plan and reduce food fraud throughout the entire food supply chain. This interdisciplinary research will draw from two areas: Food Safety Management, with the contribution of Prof. Liesbeth Jacxsens as research supervisor, and Organizational Psychology, with the contribution of Prof. Peter Vlerick as co-supervisor.

Waeel holds a Bachelor Degree on Food Science and Human Nutrition from Qassim University in Saudi Arabia, from which he graduated in 2009, and a Master Degree on Food Science and Technology from the University of Queensland in Australia, from which he graduated in 2016.

Since 2009, Waeel works as Academic Researcher on Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Saudi Arabian governmental research institute KACST. His research areas space between sustainable food production and processing methodologies, agricultural technologies, lab analysis on food nutrients and human nutrition. Through his PhD studies, Waeel expanded his area of expertise to food safety, food integrity and food fraud assessment.
