Results, findings and future perspectives in the field of the biostimulant market, the development of the new legal framework of biostimulants and the use and benefits of biostimulants in horticulture.

The Bio4safe project aims to reduce water & fertilizer use in horticulture using biostimulants and innovative sensors and tools.

In addition to demonstration trials, a biostimulant database is being created, which is a collection of relevant scientific research. The project also focuses on the biostimulant market and its potential, the product development of seaweeds and biostimulants and the new biostimulant legislation.

We want to share our results, findings and future perspectives in the field of the biostimulant market, the development of the new legal framework of biostimulants and the use and benefits of biostimulants in horticulture, whether or not combined with innovative technologies and tools.

For whom?

This Biostimulant Congress addresses a wide audience including researchers, advisers, producers of seaweed and/or biostimulants, policy makers and all other stakeholders.

Program

  • Short introduction of the Bio4safe-project - Els Pauwels (Researcher at the research station PCS Ornamental Plant Research)
  • Biostimulants and seaweed extracts in business - Members of the European Biostimulants Industry Council (EBIC)
  • Development of a new legal framework for biostimulants: standardized protocols - Benoît Planques (Chairperson of CEN Committee 455: Plant Biostimulants), Maaike Perneel (Business developer for Ghent University and HoGent in the domain of biostimulants)
  • Use of biostimulants in horticulture & the benefits - Giuseppe Colla (Scientific researcher in domain of biostimulants), Hanne Denaeghel (Researcher at the research station PCS Ornamental Plant Research)
  • Sensors and technologies to determine the impact of biostimulants on the water and nutrient use efficiency of plants - Kathy Steppe (Professor and head of the laboratory of plant ecology at Ghent University)
