Student to assist in the organization of the international CESSMIR 2022 Conference


We are looking for a student to assist us in the organization of the international CESSMIR 2022 Conference on "Contemporary forms of racism and discrimination" that will take place 18 to 21st of September 2022 at Gent University.

The tasks include:

  • Promoting the conference among relevant networks (particularly policy-makers and practitioners working in the field of migration in Belgium but also in other countries)
  • Supporting the set-up of panel sessions for the conference (by bringing potential participants in contact with each other)
  • Supporting the scientific committee in the evaluation process of the submissions and the set-up of the scientific program
  • Managing the logistical aspects of the organization (overseeing room bookings, catering, registration)
  • Communication with participants (regarding their submissions, conference registration, travel and accommodation arrangements).


  • Great organizational skills, at ease working with basic organizational tools (e.g. Google sheets; Outlook; Sharepoint)
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience in reaching out/ working with civil society and/or local authorities is a plus
  • Interest for migration-related topics is a plus
  • Proficient in both English and Dutch. French language is a plus.


  • Ideally, holds a BA degree in social sciences / humanities / health sciences

Type of contract

  • Starting ASAP until 30th of September.
  • Part-time work, 1 day/week. Ideally 2 days a week July-September.
  • Flexible work arrangement (you could work the equivalent of 8 hrs / week when best suiting your schedule)
