PRRSV

Project

Project from the FPS Health, Food chain safety and Environment “Unravelling the immune responses of piglets and sows to vaccinations against PRRSV (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus). It is a joint research project coordinated by the Infectious Animal Diseases Unit of Sciensano (Brussels) in collaboration with the Unit of Porcine Health Management from the Department of Reproduction, Obstetrics and Herd Health (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University). The overall aim of the research project is to improve the control of PRRS virus infections through vaccination by studying immune responses after vaccination. First, the control and vaccination practices against PRRS are investigated, as well as the immunity of the sow and its effect on the immune responses after vaccination of piglets. In a second part, alternative vaccination strategies are investigated by means of experimental studies. Emphasis is placed on the humoral and cell-mediated immune responses.
