Neonatology - intensive care

Professional intervention might be necessary when you observe one of the following symptoms:
- weakness after birth (Fig. 1)(i.e dummy-foal)
- failure of passive transfer (the foal did not receive enough colostrum within the first 24h after birth)
- icterus or neonatal isoerythrolysis (the antibodies of the mare attack the red blood cells of her own foal)(Fig. 2)
- aggressive mare
- foal with symptoms of colic (i.e. meconium impaction, rupture of the bladder)
- infection of the umbilicus (Fig. 3)
- respiratory distress
- severe diarrhoea
- nervous signs
We have an intensive care unit with specialised veterinarians and a group of foal nurses (foal brigade) to give the best therapy to your sick foal. Foal and mare are put in a separate part of the stable (Fig. 4) so that the mare keeps contact with the foal during the treatment.
Specialised exams such as ultrasonography, radiography, blood analysis,... can be performed in-house.
