3D-reconstruction of serial sectional images

The department of Morphology has in-house expertise in, and full capabilities for the three-dimensional reconstruction of the fine architecture of morphological specimens based on actual or virtual serial cross-sectional images such as histological slices or (micro)-CT images, from the gross anatomical to the ultramicroscopical level.

The resulting three-dimensional images not only provide better insights in the often complex architecture of vascular trees and other branching or heavily compartmentalised structures, they form the basis for further mathematical modelling e.g. determining the fluid dynamics such as blood and lymph flow within these systems.
