Vlevavc

Project

Which practical and payable strategies can be used by pig farmers to know the feed conversion rate (FCR) at their farm to subsequently optimize it? Researchers from Ghent University and ILVO are looking for an answer to this question in the Vlevavc project. There is a contradiction in pig production between the experimentally identified FCR and results which are effectively booked at some farms in the field. We aim to investigate factors influencing the FCR and related critical points in order to develop a standardized formula for calculating the FCR and thus shed light on factors influencing feed conversion in pig farms. The final goal is to develop a practical tool which makes it easier for farmers and feed companies to implement farm-specific strategies for optimization of the FCR.
