OpenFOAM Training Academic On-Site (Essential CFD and Applied CFD)
Target audience
People new to OpenFOAM and/or new to CFD that want to develop competency in all areas of CFD. A science/engineering/mathematical background is beneficial. Familiarity with Linux is an advantage.

Abstract
Training on all aspects of the OpenFOAM software package, an open-source CFD (computational fluid dynamics) package; from general operation to the underlying technology and good practice. The training is “hands-on”, with participants running OpenFOAM on a cloud computer, through a remote desktop accessed through a web browser.
Objectives
The Essentials CFD course aims at building confidence in setting up an OpenFOAM case study. Pre-processing settings will be explained, like initial conditions, boundary conditions, turbulence modelling, mesh generation using both blockMesh and snappyHexMesh. Hints on how to choose the proper discretization schemes and algorithms will be given. Finally, the post-processing phase will be covered. It will be explained how to use ParaView for visualizing geometry, mesh and fields, and how to use probes/plane to monitor the solution. The Applied CFD course aims at simulating more complex case studies. Examples with multiphase flow, compressible flow, Lagrangian particles and dynamic meshes will be investigated. Regarding the mesh generation, it will be explained how to use snappyHexMesh for extracting features and creating a multi-domain mesh, e.g. for conjugate heat transfer case initialisation. It will also be explained how to discretize the time derivatives based on the Courant number and the desired level of stability and accuracy in case of transient simulations
